Marcotting, also known as high-density layering or air layering, is a plant propagation technique. It involves making ring cuts or incisions in the bark of a branch, then wrapping it with a moist medium (such as sphagnum moss or Jiffy Peat Pellet) to create an airtight layer, promoting root growth at that location. The rooted branch is then cut off to become a new plant. This method is commonly used for propagating woody plants and prized flowers, and is particularly suitable for tree species with stiff, inflexible branches.
